Ok, we finally rented it - watched this movie for the first time Sat night. (oh hey woody - left my phone in the other room, didn't see you called until like 1)
V for Vendetta is in my top 15 list, meaning it gets a 10A (10A+ is my top 5, A- is like top 25, B+ is top 100)
It not only is a great action movie (well, its not the matrix, but its still the Wachowski's), and has great acting, it also has a great score and awesome quotes...
The script is what really stands out though - 1984 meets the Karl Rove's wet dream (and that's all I'll say on the obvious political implications of christian conservatives taking over a county (nazi's), burning books and imprisoning dissenters (nazi's), killing gays and other religions (nazi's), and controlling all media (nazi's)................................ and how, if left completely unchecked, I personally believe that the "crazy fundamentalist evangelical christian conservatives" of the country will do the same to this country.) (well I guess I did go into it )
Alas, the movie rocks. if you haven't seen it, do it. Even if you are scared by my dissertation of the plot above, its not that bad, unless your a liberal conspiracy theorist.
On that, there's an idea presented in the movie about (possible spoiler warning) the UK government killing its own people to make them want to go to war (with the 100,000 killed from the viruses)... Sound familiar to a certain conspiracy theory, the one that UW-Madison prof espouses, that has been on various websites for, oh about five years.......... |

I agree that yes, the movie is great. I finally saw it recently at a friend's behest.
To me, the movie also sends the message to stand up for what you believe in rather than lying down while government rolls over you, a message that I really have come to feel is something we all need to keep in mind in case our government goes completely off the wall.
To Joe I'll just say that you are more likely to see a crazy dictator who was a democrat (believe in big federal government) than one who was a republican (believe in small federal government and state's rights), and I'll say to all those conspiracy theorists to read this and shut the frack up. |
